Seminar Description

book cover
"One child. One therapist. For as long as it takes." This is the philosophy of the Children’s Psychotherapy Project (CPP), an organization developed to help children in foster care establish strong, enduring relationships despite the frequent flux in their lives. This developmentally-based seminar focuses on the essential elements of healthy relationships at each stage of life, from infancy through old age. (Adult development is included to help attendees give parents and foster parents the support they need to raise healthy children.) At each stage, attendees will review emotional, social, and cognitive development and explore their relationship to underlying neurological development. Drawing on the experiences of the CPP, this seminar prepares participants to build positive relationships with children and address different aspects of foster care.

The seminar is presented in four 1½ hour segments:

  1. The CPP’s approach to developing lasting relationships for foster children through clinical material.
  2. An in-depth look at elements of healthy relationships across the life span.
  3. Small group discussions over lunch with topics of particular relevance to the community.
  4. Customized, on-site consultation, with the audience participating in presenting and/or responding to vignettes.

For advanced training, an additional ½ day of intensive consultation can be added.

Bonus: Continuing education credits are available for this seminar.
