About the editors
Pasquale J. Accardo, M.D., is a professor of developmental research in pediatrics at Virginia Commonwealth University. He also directs the VCU Child Development Clinic in Richmond, Virginia. His specialty is pediatrics, with certifications in developmental and behavioral pediatrics and in neurodevelopmental disabilities in pediatrics.
Dr. Accardo previously served as the medical director of the Knights of Columbus Developmental Center in St. Louis, Missouri, and as the director of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau for Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) at the Westchester Institute for Human Development in Valhalla, New York.
Barbara Y. Whitman, M.S.W., Ph.D., is a professor of pediatrics at St. Louis University School of Medicine. She obtained her master of social work and doctoral degrees at Washington University in St. Louis and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in psychiatric epidemiology at Washington University School of Medicine. She completed additional postdoctoral training in family therapy at the Menninger Clinic, Topeka, Kansas.
Dr. Whitman has published extensively in the areas of parents of children with mental retardation, Prader-Willi syndrome, and attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorders.
