CSBS At A Glance Age range covered: 824 months (or up to 72 months if developmental delays are present) Areas screened: 18 scales measure communicative behavior (including communicative functions; gestural, vocal, and verbal means; reciprocity; and social-affective signals) and 4 scales measure symbolic development (including comprehension, symbolic play, and constructive play) Components: Caregiver Questionnaire, Behavior Sample, Manual, Toy Kit, 2 Outline Cards, Sampling Videotape, Scoring Videotape, Scoring Tutorial Who completes it: Caregivers and professionals trained to assess developmentally young children (e.g., speech-language pathologists, early interventionists, or psychologists); professionals score Approximate time: 5075 minutes for child assessment; 60-75 minutes for in-depth scoring Validity and reliability: Norm-referenced and criterion-referenced; supported by both field validation and psychometric studies Manual includes: Technical information about CSBS standardization; instructions on how to administer the questionnaire and sampling procedures, plan interventions, analyze the videotaped samples, and score and interpret the assessment |
